Projects – core resistance

Overview

The Core resistance project finances the continuation and further development of the drug resistance database that began in 2001 within the SHCS consortium.

Specific achievements (2009 – present)

Since 2006 the database is functional and usable for scientific projects. Within a large retrospective sequencing project, approximately 5000 genotypes were generated retrospectively. The support of the HIV resistance core project by the SHCS Research Foundation has resulted in a number of high quality publications. These have improved understanding of :

  • HIV transmission of drug resistance.
  • HIV transmission in general.
  • The emergence of HIV drug resistance at the population level.
  • The emergence and the significance of new drug resistance mutations.
